Something has been stirring in my soul lately. I don't share enough. Not the kind of food or money or possession sharing that we typically think of when hearing the word share, nor the instant quick twitter or facebook kind of sharing. But the deep stuff, the intimate stuff, sharing my naked soul for the world to see.
This really hit home recently as I have been studying a ton of Seth Godin. His concepts of tribes and firing people up and "shipping" or sharing things in your heart are really starting to get to me. I stay quiet, I hold many things in my own mind and never tell anyone what I really think, and I have lost dear friends because of it (If you read this and you are one, you probably know who you are and I am sorry). And now I know it is because of fear: The lizard brain tells me, 'No one cares. No one wants to read what you have to say. It won't actually change anything.' Fuck you lizard brain, you are wrong!
Yesterday Seth put out a blog post about his coworker Winnie who had pledged to blog every day for thirty days. Three weeks in she stopped. He called her out on it, and she started a blog challenge from this coming monday to next sunday. I am joining this challenge as are many of my friends. I have things to say. I want to influence my world and form the culture I live in that my kids are growing up in and will one day occupy fully themselves. I am going to use this challenge as a first step to forming a new habit of writing more and sharing myself with anyone and everyone who wants a piece.
There is one more thing about this kind of sharing. It let's everyone have what they really want, which is to fully be a part of something. Something they can really get their hands around and engage with and share back! I want this too. So share with me and I will share with you. And I want to do it everyday. So help me, and tell me if I stop sharing because I "get too busy" or some other bullshit excuse we all tend to make up.
Here is the link to Winnie's post http://yourturnchallenge.strikingly.com/ and I hope you will join me in being a bolder force of change in our world by spreading our thoughts and concepts of what we want it to be.
P.S. The graphic above was made by me and is a rendition of the universal symbol for sharing.
